First marriage service in Hudson (David Hudson as Justice of the Peace) marrying George Darrow (1778-1859) and Olive Gaylord (1785-1845). George is the son George Darrow and Eunice Meacham and he served as a Major in the Darrow’s Odd Battalion during the War of 1812. Olive was the daughter of Joel Gaylord, Esq. and Lois Cook(e).
Caption: George Darrow (1778-1859), War of 1812 veteran, built the beginnings of this structure in 1824 and altered it again in 1836 for his bride, Olive Gaylord Darrow (1779-1859). George and Olive are cited as the first couple married in Hudson. The residence served as a hotel in the early days for travelers. The Greek Revival home has remained in the Darrow family for at least six generations. The home features black-walnut-trimmed interior rooms and hand-hewn logs in the basement. Image circa 1950
